I have eight cubes. Two of them are painted red, two white, two blue and two yellow but otherwise they are indistinguishable. I wish to assemble them into one large cube with each colour appearing on each face. In how many different way can I assemble the cube?

only one. there is only one cube shape creatable with those blocks, and it is in any order, two white biside two blues, than for the second face two reds, then on the third, two yellows. then, the forth would be white and yellow.

There is only 1 possible ways to make the cube. There are 2 levels the top and the bottom both containing 4 blocks with colours that vary. The first level has red, beside white, beside blue, beside yellow. the bottom will have the same order except backwards.

I think that there's only one way of making the cube. I say this because if u do it different ways to of the same color will end up on the same face! I think that it would from a birds eye view look like this.. white on top of red, and yellow on top of blue. (Yellow would be beside white) I back up my answer, because i used square lego as building blocks yo make a cube!
ReplyDeletei'm sorry for the spelling errors! ;)

But there are 9 faces, 4 on the bottom row 4 on the top row and one at the top.
ReplyDeletedo you mean two by two by 2 or 4 by 2 by 1.
ReplyDeleteIf it is a 2 by 2 by 2 cube than i believe there is only 1 way to build it.(unless you count interchanging a blue with another blue.) On the bottom there is blue and red on one side and red and white on the other. On the top there is yellow and white on one side and a blue and yellow on the other.
ReplyDeleteWait there are two maybe more ways another is just one of each colour on each row with the same coloured ones on the row above or below and diagonal. So on the bottom blue, red, yellow, white and on the top; white, yellow, red, blue.
ReplyDeleteLeo the cube is 2 by 2!! Make up your decision!:)
ReplyDeleteI think that there are two ways to make the cube. I think so because when i finally made a cube that worked, i tried to make some subtle changes to it and it didn't work. My first way was like this: Top row: W R Bottom row: B Y
ReplyDeleteY B R W
My second way is technically the same except you pair up the cubes with different colors eg. Red only goes on top or below Blue, and Blue only goes on top or below Red. Same with White and Yellow. I just realized you could also pair up red with white, and blue with yellow. So there are 3 ways. I know my comment is confusing but i explained it as well as i could.
NONE! If you want to have one colour on each face, I will now tell you it is impossible. No matter how many times you try, two of the sides (being top and bottom), will have all four colours. Also, you only have four different colours, but a cube has six sides so making a six sided cube with one colour for each side is impossible, because YOU ARE TWO COLOURS SHORT! According to what I read, I'm the first person to say this. PLEASE DO NOT COPY!
ReplyDeleteI think that you can only assemble the cube one way. I think this way because I think it is impossible to assemble the cube any other way because the cube only has 4 cubes on each face and you only have 4 colours so... that leaves you no other option.
ReplyDeletePS: Davin, you can have more than one colour on each side... so...
red side =▓░= white side
ReplyDeletewhite side=▒█= blue side
I think that is the only way.
I could not upload my answer/diagram so I will show you it on google docs.
ReplyDeleteI think there is only one way. One side would be RB
ReplyDeleteYW
The Other would be WY
